When a doctor has received their certification by the board under which they form a part, then he or she may open up their own private practice. Psychologists, family doctors etc own private practices. There are many advantages and disadvantages pertaining to having your own private practice, primarily the advantage are that you are your own boss and you are able to run your ‘business’ the way you see fit. Do note however, that when registered as a professional at a certain medical board that their ethics and conduct of behavior are the norms that apply. The first disadvantage pertained by owning your own private practice is that even though you are qualified as a doctor; it does not mean that patients are automatically going to be standing queue at your door. Marketing is therefore vital along with a good business sense in to be successful on your own; secondly, when working for an institution, you have a fixed income and therefore are working with a sense of security. Unfortunately, with your own private practice, you must be willing to have better income months than others; this is especially true for newly developed practices.

Psychologists who have their own private practices are usually qualified as doctors and their knowledge is therefore very skilled pertaining to the human mind.
Medical doctors who have their own private practices are those physicians who have completed their doctorate degree in education and who are board certified. Medical doctors aid in the curing and diagnosis of varying diseases and they prescribe medication pertaining to varying ailments. For any individual who utilizes the services of a physician at their private practice, consultation rates are reasonable expensive and therefore it is vital that one has medical and/or health insurance. Achieving success within a private practice is the aim of most physicians and after having established the practice into one of the most well respected and trusted organizations or institutions, the physician is able to continue with their practice for many successful years.
