Physical Therapy Marketing
As a physical therapist you know how many people suffer in daily agony over pain that can easily be alleviated by your healing hands. Indeed you became a physical therapist to help lesson people’s suffering. However, now that you are a physical therapist what is the next step? How do you even begin to reach out to those people and build up a client base? You engage in physical therapy marketing.
Many people become licensed physical therapists because they enjoy the work. They take pleasure out of helping people in such an important way, of making those in pain feel comfortable in their own skins. Unfortunately, it’s never as simple as that. In order to help people you need to have people to help. This is where physical therapy marketing plays an essential role.
In order to have a viable practice you need to do three things: establish a client base, keep those clients returning, and continuously increase your reservoir of clients. While many therapists can feel intimidated by these aspects of physical therapy marketing there are companies well versed in the business and marketing side of things that are willing to help.
There are also time tested and true techniques that work for physical therapy marketing. In order to begin building your base you need to speak to doctors who can give you a referral. It’s of utmost important that a doctor have faith in your abilities in physical therapy. Marketing to the doctor by perhaps offering your services to him or her for free helps establish this faith. Do not take a possible meeting with a referral doctor lightly. Keep in mind that they are often asked for referrals and in order to engage successfully in physical therapy marketing you need to differentiate yourself from other therapists.
A second method to fully utilize the potential of physical therapy marketing is to directly advertise yourself to possible clients. Depending on your location, range, services offered, etc. there are many different approaches you can take. It’s important that you create a physical therapy marketing campaign that is specific to your individual practice.
The third and probably most simple method of physical therapy marketing involves what takes place while you are already with a client before, during and after the session. The system of informal referrals (those based on word of mouth where one client recommends you to his or her friend, family member, colleague, etc.) is often a key factor in maintaining and growing your business. It is important to learn how to market yourself to your client without seeming to insistent and obtrusive.
Admittedly, all of these methods can seem quite intimidating to one who has no or little experience in physical therapy marketing, especially because it is important that one caters these methods to the individual needs and constraints of each practice. Luckily, there is help available. Many companies have trusted, established reputations in handling the business aspects of physical therapists when the therapists themselves are feeling overwhelmed by it. Search out these companies and make sure they are ready and willing to devote their energy in seeing your business become it’s most successful.
